I thought about that verse. I think studying ...LL,

I thought about that verse. I think studying this period in history can help us understand what it means to exercise unrighteous dominion. It seems like I have been reading a number of blogs lately accusing Church leaders of exercising unrighteous dominion and I keep thinking, "You have no idea what you are talking about."

The Maccabees are a good case study of what it means to exercise unrighteous dominion and may be a significant reason why the Jews had lost the priesthood before Jesus came. There was a lot of murdering, bribery, warmongering, politicking and oppression going on. A few High Priests were murdered and the priesthood was entirely co-opted by the Jewish kings. Thousands of Jews were killed in the name of "righteousness".

So when I hear people say that modern Church leaders are exercising unrighteous dominion because they think that the Sunday School manual is bland, or disagree with the excommunication of people who have chosen to place themselves outside of the Church, or because of a mall in downtown Salt Lake City, I can't help but think, "You really have no idea what you are talking about."

When we see Tommy Monson bumping off members of the 12 because he wants to get his hands on their lucrative side businesses then we can talk about unrighteous dominion and the loss of the priesthood. The priesthood will not be taken away from the Church just because the Church leaders don't teach Church history according to the interpretation of some lawyer from Utah, or because Church leaders didn't follow exactly to the letter some policy or another.Quantumleap42https://www.blogger.com/profile/16711817313734546305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1249869099945727276.post-20169696452241263482015-03-01T19:10:51.296-05:002015-03-01T19:10:51.296-05:00It's an excellent historical case, underscored...It's an excellent historical case, underscored by D&C 121

36 That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.

37 That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man.LLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05538854359365988863noreply@blogger.com
